 Q.    What extras do you feed your birds chicks.?

  Q.    Do you normally sell birds and what's the best tip you have been given ?

Yes  £20 to £40,  I was given this tip which i never forgot   make sure your Cocks and hens are in breeding condition before pairing, this isn't as easy as it sounds. This may takes many years of experience to get it right,

started keeping budgerigars in December 2001.I started showing in 2002 but in all honesty did not have much of a clue. In 2002 I bought my first birds from Ian Gordon and have not looked back since. In 2003 I rung 90 chicks from 12 cages in two rounds and breeding has been similar ever since. 2004 99 rung, 2005 112 rung and so far this year 105 rung. I do not take more than two rounds and am finished breeding by May every year.

I have kept birds since the age of 11 starting with poultry then onto racing pigeons which I raced successfully for 14 years. I gave up the pigeons when I found I did not have enough time to share between my family, the birds and work. When I had given up I found that the evenings were missing something once the children had gone to bed so I started looking for ideas on the internet and stumbled across budgies and they seemed to strike a chord with me. I found the Aberdeen B.S website and discovered that the then secretary George Jenkins lived two streets away from me in Portlethen. I made contact with George and also discovered that an old friend from my pigeon days, Michael Main was also in the hobby and as it happened lived in Portlethen so I spent a lot of time with them both in the early days. I moved to Forres (which is where my wife and myself grew up) in 2003.I do miss the evenings that George, Michael and myself used to spend at each others aviaries talking about  and looking at each others birds.

I don't get to attend many shows due to work commitments but I am very fortunate to have some great guys (Ian Gordon,Eric Knight, Harold Hepburn and Jock Bowie) round about me who regularly take my birds to the shows for me.

                Have a nice day!
